Selection #10 Ryan Mayo

Ryan Mayo - Drafted with the 2nd pick of the 5th round, #10 overall by The King's Court

Charlotte's Independence High School is known for producing outstanding football players. One of the premier programs in the nation, the Patriots have produced such gridiron stars as former Florida standout Chris Leak and North Carolina's Hakeem Nicks.

Golf is generally an afterthough at the 4-AA powerhouse. However, one golfer whose roots are at Independence High is Charlotte's Ryan Mayo. As the tenth selection in the 2009 King Invitational draft, Mayo returns from a two-year hiatus refreshed and prepared to make major contributions to the King's Court.

Mayo took time off from the sport to clear his mind after the birth of his daughter, Emma. It's time that scouts say was well spent fine tuning his game in preparation for his return to action. One Charlotte-area scout, who refused to be named for this report, said this about Mayo: "His iron play is solid. The improvement is phenomenal. Always a big hitter off the tee, he has become a helluva threat from 175 and in."

A former TGA member, Mayo reportedly has been working towards regaining full-time status on the TGA Tour in 2009. The King's Court captain, Jackie King suggests that his inclusion in this year's invitational could be a measuring stick to guage the status of his game. "I went after Mayo knowing that he could be a contributor on my squad. But, I also wanted to get him into the fold to better grasp where he stands in his preparations for a return to the tour," King told TGA staff today.

This is Mayo's second apperance at the King Invitational.
